Rewind privacy policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
Short version: your photos never leave your phone. Rewind has no servers and no accounts. It analyzes your photos on your device and keeps the results on your device.
Who we are
Rewind is published by Nabil Bellila, an individual entrepreneur based in France. Contact: contact@kozuma.studio.
What Rewind reads on your phone
With your permission, Rewind reads the photos and videos in your gallery and their metadata: date, location stored in the photo, size and duration. It uses them to build your recap: counts, dates, places, colors, the kind of things you photograph and your best shots.
All of this happens on your phone. Rewind does not upload your photos, videos, locations or any result of the analysis. It does not recognize who is in your photos; it only counts faces to pick better shots.
The results are stored in a local database inside the app. They are excluded from Android backups. You can delete them at any time in Settings → Delete all data, or by uninstalling the app.
What leaves your phone
Rewind itself sends nothing. Two components from Google can send technical data:
- Google ML Kit, the on-device library that recognizes what is in a photo. Google says it may send diagnostic and usage data (device and app information, performance metrics, error codes and a per-installation identifier) to Google. It does not send your photos. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure.
- Google Play, which installs and updates the app, under Google's privacy policy.
When you share or save a card, the image goes where you choose (an app, a contact, your gallery). Rewind does not see what happens next.
What Rewind does not do
- No account, no sign-up, no email.
- No ads and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics or crash reporting tools.
- No selling or sharing of personal data.
Permissions
- Photos and videos: to build your recap. You can grant access to all photos or only some.
- Photo location: to find your places and trips from the location saved in photos. Rewind never asks for your live location.
- Save to gallery: only when you save a card.
Website waitlist
This applies to the website only, not to the app. If you join the waitlist on the Rewind website, we receive your email address, the type of phone you chose (Android or iPhone) and the language of the page. We use them only to send you an email when Rewind is released on your phone, and nothing else: no newsletter, no ads, no sharing.
The form is sent through FormSubmit, a service that forwards it by email, and lands in our Gmail inbox (Google). The legal basis is your consent, given by ticking the box. We delete the list once Rewind is out on both Android and iPhone, and by 30 June 2027 at the latest. To be removed sooner, write to contact@kozuma.studio.
Children
Rewind is not intended for children under 13.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have rights of access, correction and deletion. Since Rewind keeps your data only on your device, you can exercise them directly in the app or by uninstalling it. For any question, write to contact@kozuma.studio. You can also contact the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Changes
If this policy changes, for example when in-app purchases are added, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
